How should photos be cropped for fridge magnets?

A fridge magnet is a 2×3 rectangle. Crop for that shape — not for a square, and not for a full-screen phone photo.

Fridge magnets at Craftigure are 2×3 inches — the same proportion as a classic printed photo. Cropping is how you decide what survives that rectangle.

You can see original → 2×3 → square on 2×3 vs 2×2 photo magnets. This page is the rule of thumb so you are not guessing in the camera roll.

The shape is 3:2 (or 2:3), not 1:1

  • Landscape magnet: wider than it is tall (3:2).
  • Portrait magnet: taller than it is wide (2:3). Same 2×3 piece, rotated.

A square crop (2×2 style) has to throw away the sides of a landscape phone photo, or the head and feet of a portrait. That is why Craftigure prints 2×3. The comparison page is the visual proof; this page is how you work with it.

Put the face where a fridge glance will find it

You look at a magnet from a step away, not with your nose on the door.

  • Keep eyes in the middle third, not on the very edge.
  • Leave a little space above the head. A crop that shaves the hairline feels accidental.
  • For couples, try to keep both faces inside the 2×3. If they are far apart in the original, pick a tighter photo or split them onto two magnets.

What to leave out

Door frames, a stranger’s elbow, a lot of ceiling. The magnet cannot tell a wide establishing shot. If the place matters, get closer or pick a photo where the place is already behind the people.

You do not have to pre-crop in an app

Upload the original. After checkout, the order link is for files, not a design studio. If a photo needs a careful crop, send the highest-resolution original and a note in the order if something must stay in (a hand, a dog, a sign). We still print a 2×3 — we cannot print a square on a 2×3 magnet.

Need pixels left after the crop? See photo resolution for 2×3 magnets.

Choosing vs cropping

Picking the right photo is how to choose photos for magnets. Cropping is what you do once the photo is right.
